Elaine Zukowski, US

Elaine Zukowski holds a BFA in fiber art from MICA. Metalsmithing courses at the Baltimore Jewelry Center continued her education. Since 2009 she has created several lines of contemporary jewelry. Her work has been exhibited widely, recently in MAD about Jewelry at the Museum of Art and Design. Her work is available in the BJC’s retail collection, Metal Shop.

I am a weaver, a creator of form by entwining linear elements. My affinity for this way of working has been present from an early age, and I find myself returning after years away. This could only be called my truth, the core of my impulse to express and communicate. For these pieces, using mild steel wire allows the beading to hold a shape that contains negative space. Their flexibility permits them to mold to the body’s shape, and the hollow interior allows light to catch the glass from all directions. They evoke comparison to hard candy, glistening with the possibilities of enjoyment.
