My work explores the aesthetics of the uncanny through the tactile qualities of stone. Rather than the traditional aesthetics of gemstones within jewelry, I use veined and variegated stone, presented in standard jewelry formats, for its associations with figurative sculpture and decorative objects.

For years, I’ve explored the aesthetics of the abject and uncanny through the tactile qualities of carved stone. However, I recently began experimenting with carving and heat-forming horn as well as paring down my color palette and decorative impulses. Although horn presents its own unique technical difficulties, such as fragility and delamination, its lightness and malleability is a welcome departure from the unyielding nature of stone.
