Artist Statement:
Today we need a legend to unify person to the entire world, not only to his local group. We must accept that cosmetic truths specified by all civilizations; the only difference is narration!!! As far as I remember my childhood captivated by ancient Iranian Epic “Shahname”, also fascinated by Wild West heroic tales at the same time. Sound like all those western and eastern heroes set next to each other in my mind. These pieces are about entering the hero’s journey, crossing the barrier between what is known and what is unknown! The Legend of Siavash, an Iranian Hero who passed the Fire cheerfully with his horse to prove his legitimacy. This often called initiation, or the place of challenges. Once having traversed the threshold, the Hero most survives a succession of trials! In this phase, the hero is covertly aided by the secret agents of supernatural helper. And he discovers for the first time there is a benign “Power” everywhere supporting him in this superhuman passage. The Iconic materials I used are LED and Khatam. *LED lighting as symbol of the Fire at back and front of the horse. Siavash, the hero is invisible but his horse plays an important role. *Khātam (wood veneer inlay) is an ancient Persian technique of inlaying. Khatam made by delicate pieces of wood, bone, ivory and metal precisely-cut intricate geometric patterns. These all attach together like miniature Mosaics to decorate surface of wooden articles. Designing inlaid articles is a highly elaborate process. There are sometimes more than 400 pieces per square inch in a work of average quality. In each small part of inlaid work, up to approximately 250 pieces of metal, bone, ivory and different kinds of wood are laid side by side, glued together in stages, smoothed, oiled and polished. Geometric patterns of triangles and 6-point stars on its sides, and a floral design on its lid.
