Artist Statement:
Through my metalsmithing practice, I build an alternate reality called $P4RKL3 FiLTH CL0UD NiNE that is filled with objects and jewelry that exist as a form of protection of self. As a nonbinary individual, I create work that unapologetically challenges the role of contemporary craft culture and its impact on the perception of gender and class. My work is lush with complex fabrication and alternative materials that create a maximalist aesthetic. Color is a focal point, often in bright, bold, and neon palettes that reference candy wrappers, lottery tickets, and other discarded treasures I find on the streets. Working intuitively is imperative to my research, as I arrive at meaning through making. Thus, the work is an ongoing reflection of self, experimentation, healing, and searching for what makes SPARKLE FILTH CLOUD NINE.
