Bio:

Arielle Brackett is a metalsmith based in Portland, Oregon. She received her BFA in metals at the Oregon College of Art and Craft in 2017. She teaches metalsmith classes at Multnomah Art Center. She has shown nationally and internationally, including Canada, Romania and Russia. Brackett was awarded best in metals at the Colorado Gallery of the Arts in Littleton, Colorado and the Art Center of Estes Park in Estes Park, Colorado. She received two scholarships to paint in Le Barroux, France and Grand Junction, Colorado. In May 2016, Brackett was granted a full ride scholarship to attend a two-week glass workshop at the Penland School of Craft. Brackett is published in Jams 2018, which showcases her installation piece called, People Don’t See the Weight. She was recently published in a book called How Art Heals, by Andra Stanton. In 2019, she had a piece in a runway show, Shift in Portland, Oregon. Brackett showed work in Exhibition in Motion in Chicago in 2019 and online in 2021.

Artist Statement:

​​50 brooch series started at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown. This series is not yet completed and will continue until I reach fifty brooches. Each brooch is different from each other and often contains repurposed or recycled materials. Number 22 is made with brass, nickel and woven repurposed plastic grocery bag. This piece is created with a photo etched image of a theater hall. A place that hasn't been accessible throughout the pandemic. Number 27 is made with brass, nickel and repurposed plastic straws. Because of the shutdown I lost my employment and I was forced to use low cost materials. Ocean Form Trio is a collection of three forms, one is a bud vase and the other two are brooches. This series of work was created as a way to get my creative practice going after getting out of school. Each form explores a variety of materials and techniques including, flocking, knotting, silver leafing and encrusting glass frit.
