Bio:

I am a self-taught artist. My academic training was as a lawyer, but I spent 40 years in the sailboat business with my husband. My explorations into craft began with weaving. I focused on rug weaving, creating geometric designs in a flat medium. Around 2006 I started experimenting with beading and, after all that time in a flat medium, I was struck by the 3D-geometry possibilities. I started with glass seed beads, as one generally does, but I gradually realized that longer, narrower beads showed off the structural nature of my work better. My beads kept getting longer and thinner, till now I cut my own tubes, mostly of sterling silver and gold fill, and build chains of polyhedrons which form jewelry. I continue my explorations in that vein, pushing my limits and having great fun along the way.

Artist Statement

I create 3D structural jewelry with a strong mathematical base. I cut sterling silver tubes in various lengths and oxidize them. I then join them with a needle and thread to build open geometric structures. Often I add tubes of gold fill as accents. My pieces hold their shape, but because they are not soldered into a single unit, they are not entirely rigid and can move with the body. My goal is to create pieces that are big and volumetric while at the same time minimalist and architectural.
