Ruta Naujalyte, Norway
At first sight, my works appear to be fragile, sincere, and deeply confusing, at the same time they are absurd, exciting and in motion. This juxtaposition of the macabre, fragile, incomplete and peculiarly beautiful is my medium to convey ideas from feminism, environmental issues and the philosophical critique of capitalism, which all influences my creative work.
The context in my work is usually influenced and informed by feminism, scholarly discussion on environmental issues and the philosophical critique of capitalism. As a textile artist, I have always been extremely material, technique-based and committed to my craft as I only used sewing threads as a material and crochet as a technique. Textile as an art tool is a liable medium to connect with the audience and to talk about very important problems in a very appealing way. As very tactile materials, textiles prove to be very interactive with a viewer, thus I will encourage my audience to interact with my art pieces and to touch.
