About

The history of contemporary studio art jewelry usually begins with the modernist jewelry movement in the United States during the 1940’s These mid century art jewelry pioneers believed that they had more in common with painters, sculptors, and other modern artists of the day than traditional bench jewelers that came before them. Their goal was to create one-of-a-kind works of art that the general public could wear.

As the name suggests, art jewelry emphasizes creative expression and design, and is often characterized by the use of materials which are often not associated with traditional, conventional jewelry. Contemporary art jewelry may incorporate organic materials, found objects, or elements that are not necessarily prized for their intrinsic value, or use materials that are common to traditional jewelry, but in uncommon ways.

AdornAxis celebrates all facets of contemporary studio art jewelry. Our goal is to explore the creative expression of jewelry artists both past and present. We will share the works that delight us, with their inventive experimentation and excellence in design and craftsmanship, while paying homage to its history.

Whether you are a maker or collector, we welcome you to join us in our journey. Our hope is that you will look to us as a source of what’s new and exciting in contemporary art jewelry.
